Winter puglsey riding!

Jan. 22 2011

When you live in the North and have a very passionate cycling community, it is only a matter of time before passion meets environment. In recent years we have seen a huge jump in winter cycling. In particular, ‘fat biking’. Companies like Surly and Salsa have made extra fat tired bikes that are perfect for snow riding. Interested in seeing what these bikes look like and how they handle?

A group of local puglsey riders went out and shot this video on one of our local trails. -28 C (-18 F) doesn’t stop the locals!

Enjoy!

Cold winters bring dreams of summer

Jan. 16 2011

Ryan Leech is returning to the Yukon to lead our popular Ride and Reach yoga and mountain biking retreat July 2-8, 2011. Mountain biking is a tonne of fun but can sometimes be hard on our bodies. Ryan has found over the course of his cycling career, his body has accumulated it’s share of aches and pains. He did notice a great change in his body once he started practicing yoga, and he hasn’t turned back since then! North Shore News just published an interview with Ryan detailing his path to the joining of yoga and mountain biking. Read the article here.

Our Ride and Reach has 4 spaces left. Send us an email at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for registration. This retreat is a great introduction to Yukon mountain biking and to explore this beautiful, wild part of northern Canada. The yoga classes are intended to start you, or to encourage you to continue, mixing yoga with your cycling routine. The benefits are real!

We have updated our photo album with new photos courtesy of Dan Barham, professional mountain bike photographer that was up to the Yukon last summer on a photo shoot. It definitely has us dreaming of the summer!

Keep warm!

Looking back at 2010, looking ahead to 2011

Dec. 29 2010

While we are trying to stay warm during a particularly frosty part of winter, we are torn between laughing fondly at the past 2010 season and eagerly awaiting an incredible 2011! Sylvain spent part of the holidays surfing through our mounds of great photos from the summer and has posted his favourites on our facebook page. Watch out - they will have you dreaming of summer riding too!

The biggest news that we have to offer is our two specialty packages are open for registration. Ride and Reach with Ryan Leech is set for July 2 - 8, 2011 at a cost of $1950 CAD, and our newest addition, sport photography with Dan Barham which will be June 13 - 17, 2011 at a cost of $1200 CAD. Excellent value, and fantastic learning opportunities set in one of the most beautiful locations!

We are also launching a multi-sport trip over the summer solstice period. This trip will combine hiking, paddling, mountain biking, all the while introducing you to our charming Northern culture. The dates are set for June 27 - 30, 2011 and the cost will be $1200 CAD. As with all of our trips, the capacity is set at 6 participants.

Happy new year to everyone and have fun dreaming of your great Yukon adventure!

Winter in the Yukon

Dec. 4 2010

Well, our countdown to longer days is quickly approaching. Winter and summer solstices are important times for Northerners. We interact daily with our natural world, and as we are north of the 60th parallel, we are definitely affected by the waxing and waning of the daylight hours. Summers have endless daylight and Yukoners take advantage of each one of those hours! It is pretty amazing how much you are able to accomplish and how much energy you have. Winters, on the other hand, are by nature, colder and darker. I personally love winter as well. It is that time to relax, catch up on some reading, dinner parties with friends and a lot of socializing. And of course, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, backcountry snowboarding, snow kiting… we are rather active people up here!

People are still out riding bikes in Whitehorse, whether to commute to work or playing around on the snowmobile tracks with the new fat tire bikes. Team Boréale has been busily answering email requests and putting together a lot of custom packages for 2011. If you have any questions about life in the North, or what your vacation could possibly look like, please feel free to contact us. It is our favourite subject wink We did create a frequently asked questions page, which we hope at least begins to answer our most commonly asked questions. If not, please feel free to ask away!

If you are lucky enough to have a dump of snow, I hope you get out there and enjoy it!

New packages for 2011

Oct. 17 2010

While the bikes and yurts are away for another season, Team Boréale is busily planning for the 2011 season!

The overwhelming success of our Ride and Reach yoga and mountain biking retreat with pro rider Ryan Leech  has guaranteed we are doing it again next year! We have secured the dates for July 2-8, 2011. 5 days/6 nights of instruction in yoga and mountain biking, riding in some of North America’s most stunning scenery and soaking up the legendary Northern hospitality. All from the comforts of our yurtville! This retreat is limited to 6 participants and is based on double occupancy in our fully furnished yurts.

Our good friend Dan Barham, professional mountain bike photographer (senior photographer for BIKE magazine and Singletrack UK) has joined forces with Team Boréale to do a special sport photography retreat! Have you ever taken a picture of a rider mastering a super steep descent, only to have the photo depict a non-challenging, flat terrain? Dan is here to help! Over the course of 3 days/4 nights, he will lead us through the world of digital mountain bike photography and show how to capture and process that ‘worthy of a frame’ action shot. Each day will be the perfect mixture of riding bikes on endless Yukon singletrack and taking advantage of our midnight sun while learning proper technique for shooting and processing action photos. More details to come soon! If you would like more information, please contact us at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

We’re also going to offer special group dates for clubs, large groups of friends etc. Please contact us for more information at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or check back at our website soon. And as always, our super popular 3 day/3 night Weekender Special will be offered again all summer!

Enjoy the autumn!

Riding bikes, sampling the goods

Oct. 3 2010

The last two days we have been treated to fantastic singletrack for the Adventure Travel Trade Assocation Pre-Summit Adventures. Tracy and Emma from Hub in the Forest based out of Glentress, Scottish Borders have shown us some of the goods here and it has been amazing. Put the 7 Stanes on your list! Yesterday’s break between rides included a visit to a castle built in 1107 and is still in the family and used as a house! Came complete with an original brewery from the 1750’s that puts out some delicious beers.

Tonight we head to Aviemore to start our conference!
